Welcome to UCIP Internet Research and Development! The primary purpose of the R&D department is simple, but sweeping: to make sure that every ship in UCIP could take place within the same simming "universe." To be successful as a sim group, UCIP's ships must remain more or less consistent with one another -- you should be able to easily believe that all of them could be part of the same universe, whether Starfleet, Romulan, or Klingon, whether starship, starbase, shuttle, or runabout.

UCIP Internet is a sim group based on the Star Trek® television series. In particular, the sims in UCIP take place in the year 2399, almost 25 years after the end of the Dominion War as shown on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. As such, the technology and culture of the Milky Way galaxy has advanced in those years. In particular, U.S.S. Voyager has come home, and has brought new propulsion technologies home with her, making the galaxy a somewhat smaller, but no less exciting place!

From here, you can review much of the "Trek-nology" of UCIP, both the technologies that we inherit from Star Trek, and those we've created ourselves. Research and Development is made up of several "groups" that concentrate on differing areas of technology, including Starship Development, Weapons, Defenses/Materials, Small Unit Technology, Biomedical Technology, Computer/Sensory Technology, and SSS Technology. The list of past and present starship classes approved by the Advanced Starship Development Group (ASDG) can be reviewed in the UCIP Starships section, all other technologies in the Tech Database section.

If you have questions, comments, or are looking for someone to talk to about UCIP technology, there is an extensive list of Contacts available. Contacts include not only the staff of Research and Development and a list of the positions we serve in, but access to our listserver and a large library of Trek-nology-oriented websites and other information sources, including those you can purchase. The Proposals section is available for those who either want to review current proposals being considered for inclusion in UCIP, past proposals, or submit your own! There are webforms available for the submission of either new starships or other new technology.
